Audio: There are concerns about the effectiveness of MLEs for students with difficulties. Jack Boyle speaks with Mike Hosking
There are concerns about the effectiveness of modern learning environments (MLEs) for students with difficulties.
$750 million has been spent across the country to build 19 of the MLEs.
The Ministry of Education sponsored a survey of every school in New Zealand which found the classrooms “difficult to justify”.
PPTA President Jack Boyle said he’s worried about whether this environment is going to work for everyone.
“There’s nothing in the research to suggest that those people who have got neuro-diversity, or sensory challenges, or who just need routine and structure are going to be well served in these spaces.”
