Event Details

Welcome, 2017

In 2015 an Educational Leadership SIG was established within NZARE and we see this as a great opportunity to further develop networks and opportunities for collaboration between NZARE members whose focus is leadership/management/administration in education, as well as AARE members who have a similar SIG in Australia.

We are hoping to develop an on-line collaborative presence that both educational leadership communities can connect. We see this as vitally important, not just for emerging and recent post-doctoral researchers but also for experienced academics/researchers as well. In parallel to this

We are planning a two-day symposium this September at Auckland University of Technology’s (AUT) South Campus in Manukau, South Auckland.   More details will be coming especially in relation to registering, though we have decided on the focus of the two days:

Day 1 (Friday Sept 8th):  Critical spaces and critical questions: Leadership theory and research in education.

Pitch: Academic, critical, socio-cultural, research, political

Supported by: NZARE Ed Ldsp SIG and AUT

Size: small as the emphasis is on generating conversations and sharing expertise – 30-40

Format: critical provocations on leadership by prominent academics and presentations by PhD students and recent PhD graduates. Use of open spaces to generate conversations

Day 2 (Saturday Sept 9th):  Collaborative spaces and inquiring questions: Re(shaping) teaching and leadership practice in schools.

Pitch: practice and practitioner related research, application, focus collaborative inquiry and ILE, cultural responsiveness

Supported by: AUT, Osprey Consulting and NZARE Ed Ldsp SIG

Size: 60-100

Format: multiple presentations by schools and shorter presentations by Masters researchers. Some longer presentations from researchers who work with schools.

Please get in touch with us if you would like to be kept in touch directly with future developments.
