After days of speculation, Channel Ten has confirmed Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins will be the next Bachelor.

The Wallabies star, 30, cleans up nicely in the campaign image for the wildly popular reality love series, with his signature curls styled, a black and white suit with relaxed bow tie holding the trademark red rose.

The network listed a plethora of reasons in a press release as to why they selected the atypical type as their leading man.

“Physically striking, successful and smart, the sporting talent of this wild-haired winger, Nick’s wicked sense of humour and his distinctive, witty one-liners have made him a hero, both on and off the field,” the statement said.

Cummins, who has built a reputation as the ‘Honey Badger’ because of his ferocity and toughness, said he was “really looking forward to throwing everything at this opportunity to finding the one.

“The past 10 or so years has been on the road playing rugby or working on my projects, so I’m very excited to be part of a show that is centred around love and good times.”

He is the first high profile man to take the role, and no doubt Channel 10 has made that choice based on last year’s extremely successful series of The Bachelorette starring Sophie Monk

While the selection was widely criticised at first, Monk delivered Ten the highest audience since its inception four years ago.

Network Ten Executive Producer of The Bachelor Australia, Hilary Innes, said: “We are delighted that Nick has agreed to be Australia’s next Bachelor.

“He will bring a refreshing, honest and cheeky energy to season six. On top of all his incredible achievements, he is both loveable and surprising. I know he will be a phenomenal Bachelor.”
