Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education

  • Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
  • Continuing (i.e. permanent) position

The School of Teacher Education’s Early Childhood team is a committed group of academics who make a difference by supporting the development of future teachers through their teaching, research, and partnerships with the early childhood sector. This team is excited to add a new colleague who will share their passion for inclusive education, commitment to bicultural education, and a community orientation in their work.

Applications are invited from academics for a Teacher Education position based in the Early Childhood Sector. The role will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, with a focus on contributing to pre-service Teacher Education programmes in early childhood, and leading and teaching postgraduate programmes and research initiatives in early childhood education within the School of Teacher Education.

Who You Are

Applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • an understanding of, and the ability to apply bicultural (and /or cultural) competence;
  • the ability to lead and develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the area of early childhood education;
  • evidence of an emerging or established record of research success with capacity to grow as a research leader within the early childhood sector;
  • evidence of effective supervision or co-supervision of masters or doctoral level students;
  • hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D in Education or a related discipline with a particular focus on the early childhood sector (consideration may be given to applicants who are very near the completion of a doctoral degree if the candidate has an emerging record of scholarship).

The following will be an advantage for applicants:

  • some evidence of leadership roles
  • demonstration of positive engagement with a range of community stakeholders
  • an understanding of Te Whāriki
  • an understanding of te reo me ōna tikanga,

Current teacher registration (or eligibility to apply for teacher registration) in New Zealand will also be an advantage.
