“Exercise your democratic right to make a difference – get online and vote for your Council Board!” says Teaching Council interim Chief Executive, Lesley Hoskin.

‘’These elections are very significant,” says Hoskin. “The Teaching Council is doing important work with and on behalf of teachers, and their input in choosing a Board is essential.

“During the new Board’s three-year term, we will continue to advocate on behalf of teachers to raise the status of the profession and to support excellence in teaching, initial teacher education and educational leadership.”

Teachers and principals from the primary and secondary sectors, teachers and leaders from Early Childhood Education, and teacher educators will each select a candidate.

The single transferrable vote system will be used and for most teachers voting will be online.

Each registered teacher and holder of a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) will receive an email or letter with a unique access code and password. Voting closes at midday on 26 March. After the elections, Minister of Education, Chris Hipkins will appoint a further six Board members.
