Auckland is one of the global fashion hotspots, according to AfterPay’s Global Report. There are 3.2 million Kiwis out there using AfterPay to buy their next seasonal wardrobe, and we have a special affinity for accessories – with every purchase averaging four accessories! That means we love our scarves, bags, hats and scrunchies – every last detail of our outfit is carefully put together.
For Autumn, we can look forward to runway looks of head-to-toe tonal looks of grey, beige and light brown. Oversized coats are a must, but if it’s a puffer jacket you’re desperate for this season, the good news is that they’re back in! After walking down the runway in Balenciaga in 2016, the puffer jacket just hasn’t been out of fashion. A shearling, floral or puffer – you decide but looking warm and oversized (yet traditionally cool) is in for Autumn 2020.
With splashes of light blue, grey and pink, the colours for Autumn 2020 are light and fresh. For knitted dresses – the classic style of the season – look for midi, smock and long-sleeved dresses that’ll keep you warm and looking toasty. Don’t be afraid to mix block colours this season – a black dress with an oversized, pale blue coat is never dated.
For those casual Fridays – logomania has hit us and we’ve been spending large according to the AfterPay Global Report. Think vintage, 80’s, retro-vibe shirts paired with well-fitted denim, or a high-waisted skirt. A good print (influenced by the pre-Autumn Gucci collection) is also ranked highly with fashionable Kiwis, alongside the classic check-print. Look at your wardrobe for the season – are you on trend for your Zoom calls?
So, all of this sounds good, but where are we going to buy a brand-new wardrobe? Kiwis rate Decjuba after it joined the ‘Free Fur Initiative’ in 2019, Country Road for its commitment to sustainability, Cotton On’s commitment to sourcing sustainable cotton by 2021, and Bonds, the underwear brand that openly supports the LGBTQIA* community. However, it is only possible to currently buy from these stores as a ‘click and collect’ option, so at Level Three it might not be the time to go shopping just yet.
And if you’re looking ahead to the trends for Spring 2020, we can see that outfits oozing easy, breezy elegance will be back in style. Whites and creams worn head-to-toe and flowing maxi dresses. Plus, if you really want to be ahead of the game – start investing in a good pair of mules and a clutch now, they’re both timeless and will stand you in good stead for seasons well beyond next Spring.
