The human race has been surviving on this planet for the past millions of years, with our ancestors living in a daily struggle of fear as they fought for their lives. However, we have come so far, especially in the last 100 years, and our society is closer than it has ever been before. Our world is finally becoming one and different cultures are spreading from the farthest corners of the globes into our most populous cities.
I, of course, believe this is a fantastic thing as our people are coming together and working better than we ever have before. But, with the great amount of benefits that come with our cultures colliding and brining a greater world, it brings a multitude of obstacles that we must overcome as well. I find this obvious in a key problem that is language barriers.
We are barred from communication with each other based solely on the fact that we do not speak the same language. This is why it is so important, in my opinion, to learn a second language as we are heading towards an increasing progressive future.
It is wrong for us to assume that everybody speaks English and it is worse to assume that everybody should learn English. You need to make an effort to speak with people of other cultures because as I have explored in other articles, it will bring a new sense of joy to your life and help open your mind to endless opportunities and various perspectives.
I understand that it is impossible for us all to learn every single language with the thousands of different languages spoken worldwide, but it is not difficult to expect each person to learn a little bit from our more popular languages – Mandarin, Spanish, Hindu or Arabic. I believe this will help you become a more well respected member of society and you will find that you begin to work better with other cultures except our own.
Another key benefit of learning a second language is the perks it will bring when you travel. As various culture are coming into ours; we are also going into theirs and as travel is becoming far easier in our current time, meaning that many of us will go off to explore other countries in our lifetime.
Much of the target audience of these blogs are teenagers who will likely be looking at different options as they finish school in the coming future and many of them will be looking to travel as they leave school.
In my opinion, you will find it easier to enjoy yourself more and have a more immersive experience as you are able to communicate with the people of the cultures you are visiting. As I have said even the basics will be able to help you to enhance your time in another country.
Planet Earth is rapidly becoming one as humankind progressively takes over much of the land space. As today’s youth head into our unknown future, it is always important to learn as many skills know before its’ too late and with the rise of cultures coming together – we should all take the time to learn and communicate with people outside of our ‘own’.
It will help us all with the jobs that we want to take as employers increasingly narrow there searches on what employees they want to hire and will look for the people who can deliver a plethora of skills.
It is not hard to go out and learn something new about language with the amount of people coming and going into New Zealand from international countries and our education systems deliver some of the best language courses.
I encourage all people to learn the basics of another language.
